World No Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) takes place every year on May 31. It is an initiative founded by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The main purpose is this day is to encourage people all over the world to stop using all forms of tobacco products for a 24-hour period. WNTD is also about drawing attention to the harmful health effects of using tobacco and breathing in second-hand smoke.

In Canada, the Government of Ontario used the WNTD to implement a ban on retail displays of tobacco in 2008. Over the past years, the Government of Nunavut (GN) has implemented several community-based programs and activities to show full backing to the WNTD initiative. This year, the GN will be launching Go Blue Nu in all communities. Click here for more details.
